During The remaining weeks in the year 1957 contacts with Madison and Wisconsin were continued and more explored. Both parties seem to have very much interest in my services. Particular Madison Wisconsin and the U.S.A. were in the process to launch a humongous project for over many years, design, and construct the very much-needed Interstate System. To come to a decision, the best would be having a direct inspection of the two places. On the other hand (this expression reminds on the Fiddler on the Roof), the responsibility to my present employer is important to me. I am obligated to do my best until I resign, which I have not done yet. I am in deep depth to my present to employer. He is the one who saw my potentials and gave all the opportunity to go where I am today. I talked with him some and he is in total agreement with my plans, promising to give all needed support. The remaining time of the winter 1957 was mostly closing engineering projects to come to the completion of our existing contracts with the City of Elliot Lake. Now I start planning the upcoming trip to Wisconsin and Missouri by the early 1958. This Trip may bring our endeavor very close to completion. The "Where to go" will be determined if everything goes well and the last one of the W`s "When…" might get more acute.
On an early brisk morning, according to my present memory, in one of the first days of February 1958 the planned Trip the U.S.A. began. Prior to detailing some important happenings' try to explain inserted Map images depicting very close the most efficient route to Madison and Springfield. The locations shown on these images did not change very much, from when I used them many years ago. The major roads from 1958 converted into Interstate Highways depicted by blue Road signs. The location of many other signs maintains there location and markings. The images might be a great help to you following my trip and the description where I am or planning to go next. The Trip to Waukesha took about a good day. The distance from Sault St Marie to Waukesha is about 700 miles.. The Purpose of this Trip is very important for the future our family. The landscape to Wisconsin and Michigan is hilly to flat. Closer to Waukesha the land appeared to be more a mixture of hills and flat. A short rest overnight in Waukesha made a good impression on me. After good , sleep in a motel continued the Journey to Madison, which is much more metropolitan. I did not lingered very long in Madison planned to come back later. Continued towards Springfield Missouri from Chicago over St.Lois to Springfield Miss. Look at the Map and orient you. Distance from Chicago approximate 650 Miles.
Elliot Lake Fall 1957.
In the Website prior to this we started the second "W" of our three W`s and finished the First W. To repeat, the purpose gave us an organized plan with schedule and orderly approach for our departure Exodus. First,What to do, second Where to go. The last When will we go? Why the title "Exodus" and what connection has our t-[pJourney with this word? Many of you might have this question on their mind .I will do my best, give in the following a good explanation. The Word Exodus is of Greek origin and translated could read Emigrate or Emigrating. The biblical and historical times coinciding very close, if hundreds of years at that time span are not of any significant. Most of you know about Moses and his historical role he played in the deliberation of his people the Israelites. For four hundred years, these people enslaved by

the Egyptian Pharaoh supplied the needed labor constructing their Pyramids. The record showed in the year 2447 B.C. Moses started to lead his people of slavery back into Israel. The ending of their journey mysteriously Jehovah, their God, delayed The Exodus for an additionally forty years for disobedience. Moses died prior seeing the Promised Land. There is a certain similarity the Journey`s emigrating from Canada to U.S.A. It would be arrogant to think that there is total stimulatory in total happenings. Looking at an individual Israelites and compare my Journey with the same scales, one will see the connection. That`s why I took the liberty to call this Website Exodus.
Looking at the appropriated map one can see a long stretch of Highway winding down on to days Interstate System. At the time, I used the same Highways, similar location just being Major roads. One of a famous route possible remembered the Route 66. The scenic starting in Chicago towards the St Lois mostly flat to low mountainous. Coming down here, I had an open mind and did not look for negatives. Moving along towards Springfield I was looking and hoping an improvement in the appearance of the Landscape. To my dismay, it never happened. Getting closer to my destination some more of the observations did not agree with my desire. The meadows Cows grazed on appeared very dry and grey looking grass, the animals looked very skinny, and the whole Picture not pleasant to look at. With this thought in my mind entered Springfield, late in the evening and being dark. The Overnight arrangements were satisfactory. Springfield, a midsize Southern City and had a clean appearance. When I entered stores or visited restaurant and start talking to the people present, it was impossible to understand anything they talked back. After I visited City Hall and had a good understanding with the people involved, but could not agree on certain issues, to return next day. Their conversation English was not hard to comprehend. I could not picture building a new life with my family in surroundings' so strange to us. I revisited City Hall, informed them, and started back around noon to Madison WI. Somewhere next day noon after overnighting, I returned to Madison WI.
Madison is the Capital of Wisconsin with 5.5 Mill. Inhabitants. A very nice and clean City surrounded by clean, beautiful Lakes. There are Fast connections to most major big cities. Approximate 100 Miles distanced from Chicago. I found the locality of the Headquarters, Department of Transportation (D.O.T.), and granted my Interview on the same day. Very Professional and courteous staff people talked with me in length. Most issues we discussed known to be no problem and easy to agree on. I agreed to there condition and they were
more than genres' to me. The localities available stretched over all Wisconsin, I choose Waukesha, which I liked when I saw it first. The starting Date of May 1 to 10th 1958. The same afternoon I drove to Waukesha, which is 60 Miles (+/-.). Arriving there in the dark and prepared myself for a big assignment next day before returning to Elliot Lake. The Lady informed me prior to returning to Elliot Lake investigate the possibility renting or reserving an apartment in Waukesha. For a few days studied the local market on these issues and found an unbelievable offer, impossible to refuse. An older Lady died and her daughter looked for a renter of the whole house, including all furniture everything needed to have all necessary utensils to maintain a complete household. Contacted the daughter at once and made the necessary arrangement to rent the house. The daughter dealt very generous. Reported to Elliot Lake where the good news appreciated. After few days in Waukesha, my mission completed returned to Sault Ste. Marie, with my first Car I ever owned on the North American Continent, a VW. (Volkswagen)
.
The Bridge shown at the image presented did not exist when we resided in Elliot-Lake in 1957/58. At that time the cross traffic between Ontario and Michigan handled by a very depending Ferry. Thru the years, the traffic became so heavy; it was more economical to construct a structure than purchasing a new Ferry. It is a very beautiful Bridge, seen at the Picture shown. It took not long to arrive back in Elliot Lake; the Distance of approximate 60 Miles one can drive in a short time. The Family and some of my Friend enjoyed my return and showed, too. A few days after returned, I reported to my Employer and gave him my resignation in writing. He mentioned again, if any assistance, now or in the future I could use not to hesitate to contact him. I felt proud. Next trip, to Toronto, We have to make, when all the arrangements are made for our Visa into the U.S.A.
By the end of February 1958, after informed, drove to Toronto to the United States Custom agency for signing and receiving the visas to enter and live in America with the so-called green Card. The Highways we traveled before to Toronto are good. Not so pleasant was the time we traveled, during the night. The time to our departure in May was running fast. After we received the document at the Custom Agency visited the Lady`s aunt rested and left early in the morning back to Elliot Lake. While driving north it started snowing very heavy. When we reached the city of Sudbury late in the evening, still snowing heavy, stopped rented a Motel room and completed the remaining distance to Elliot Lake in the morning without any interruption. Both of us were happy to return to a better-known
environment. We had so many things to do prior to our planned departure at the beginning of May1958.
One of the last tasks I had to perform drive the Lady to the nearest Hospital in Blind River located 30 Miles from Elliot Lake The trip a happy occasion, our second child , another girl was born. When we arrived at the Hospital, I had return soon, taking care of our other Baby. It was now mid April 1958, a few weeks away from our planned departure to Waukesha WI. Time passed on fast and it came to a feeling never had before. I was not so happy leaving all my good friends and the overpowering goodness`s of my Employer thru all this time. However, time moved on so we had, and did; will be grateful forever. Elliot Lake as mentioned prior on this page was the completion of my growing and preparation to become the final "Milestone ". All of our three W`s are completed, "What to do, Where to go and When t to go! Soon, a little saddened we will leave, however planning to return as visitors.
Final Words to ponder on...
We have to two Ears and one Mouth... So that we can listen twice as much ss we speak
The next Website Page will open the door into the known Land not of Milk and Honey, the Land of unlimited Possibility. Stay on the Journey and you will see.
